Lucas Machado's Refúgio Rio Quente Resorts space at CASACOR, photographed as architecture: arched openings, lit ceiling coves and screens of raw timber poles over a terracotta floor.
The space is built from a few gestures repeated with conviction. Thick plaster walls are cut into arches and round niches, the ceiling is pierced by soft organic coves, and screens of upright timber poles divide the room without closing it.
The shoot follows the plan. It enters through the arched doorway, crosses the long lounge with its curved sofa, passes the dining tables, then turns to the lit niches where single chairs sit like figures in a wall.
Every frame is held level, the coves kept from burning out, the terracotta warm but true. A resort sells a mood before a room, and the light here is the mood, so the pictures are built around it.
