Matte is a finish people describe by touch, so the set shows it being applied. A small brush sweeps peach shadow across the lid. A larger one buffs blush into the cheek. The palette never leaves the warm side. Peach on the lids, rose pink on the cheeks, a soft coral or a muted rose on the lips, all with the velvet finish the series is named for. A lip tint with a doe-foot wand appears twice, held close to the mouth, the colour on the applicator matching the colour already worn.

One look changes the register. Against a gold backdrop the lip deepens to a brown rose and the blush sits higher, the evening version of the same skin. It shows a shopper that the matte finish carries from a bright morning to a night out, without changing the products.
