A. Niemeyer's summer collection, look by look, each against its own hand-painted wall.
A. Niemeyer's summer collection is made of textures: linen, crochet, gingham, open knits, a jumpsuit in printed cotton. Textures need room, so each look was given its own painted wall.
The backdrops are hand-painted canvases, dusty pink, sage, a marbled green, hung over a raw concrete floor. Against them: a lilac open cardigan, a pinafore with a yellow trim, a mint gingham wrap dress, a lime layered dress you could spot from across the street, a cream crochet coat. The models turn away as often as they face the lens, because a summer dress is mostly seen from behind.
It is a simple device, borrowed from the portrait studio: let the wall carry the colour and the fabric carry the light. The result looks like a painting and works like a lookbook.
