Carolina Romanno's fine jewellery, photographed at the distance it is worn: on skin, in soft grey light, with nothing else in the frame.
Most jewellery photography keeps a respectful distance: a neck, a hand, a lot of grey. Carolina Romanno's fine jewellery was shot as close as it is worn, which is very close.
A fine chain runs from ear to nose across a freckled cheek. A diamond grill sits on a smile. A ring is held between the teeth. A pendant hangs on a bare back, a tennis necklace catches the light on dark skin, a stack of rings stands alone on black like a small sculpture. Five women, five very different faces, and their skin left as skin: freckles, pores, a few flyaway hairs.
The light is one soft source and a grey wall, so the only sparkle in the frame comes from the stones. It is the difference between showing a piece and showing what it feels like to wear it.

Freckles stay. Retouching is for the stones.
