Maille cornichons and Dijon mustard in a concept set: the green jar in a basket of fresh gherkins, mustard beside a fillet steak, a garden table with rosé, a spoon lifting from the jar.
Maille's jars are dark with gold lettering, which makes them read as pantry objects. The set treats them as ingredients instead. The cornichons sit on a board with dill and garlic, then in a wicker basket of fresh cucumbers, where the pickle and the vegetable it came from share the frame.
The mustard pictures are about what it goes with. A fillet in sauce with a glass of red. Whole grain spread on toasted bread. A spoon of Dijon held over a pan of macaroni and grated cheese. Each answers the shopper's real question, which is what to do with the jar.
The quietest frame is the cornichon jar alone on a sunlit plank, leaf shadows on the wall. The busiest is a white linen table laid for a group. Between them, the brand covers both registers it sells in, the shelf and the table.
